The Organ Pipes National Park is just under a 30 minute drive from Rockbank and is steeped in Aboriginal culture. The Organ Pipes are one the world’s largest ancient volcanic lava flows and a visit to the park will allow you to see an old volcano site with a spectacular cliff face with stone columns towering above Jackson Creek. There are plenty of walks on offer and it’s the perfect place to have a leisurely picnic and spot some native wildlife.
Lerderderg Gorge
The stunning surrounds of this rugged gorge will take your breath away, you’ll feel a sense of remoteness, but you are only 45 minutes from Rockbank. If you are an avid hiker there are plenty of walks with amazing views. If you truly want to experience the park stay the night at the Lerderderg Campground.
Eynesbury Farmers Market
Mark it in your calendar for every fourth Sunday. Eynesbury Famers’ Market is the place to be. With local farmers and producers selling their wares direct to the public, it doesn’t get much fresher. Start with a coffee and wander and fill your bag with local goodies.
Melton Botanic Gardens
If you are a plant lover, this one is for you. Melton Botanic Garden combines beauty and education on a visit. The Botanic Trail allows visitors to explore the surrounds, so take your bike or scooter. Take a guided tour with one of the dedicated volunteers and learn what species is from where, and if you spot a plant that would look good in your garden, head to the onsite nursery to make your purchase.
