Rockbank and the wider city of Melton is undergoing a transformation that will redefine life in Melbourne’s west. With billions invested in infrastructure, healthcare, transport, and education, and a growing list of delivered community assets the vision for Rockbank and Melton is fast becoming a reality.
What Major Projects are Set to Transform Melbourne’s West.
Later this year, the much-anticipated Rockbank Town Centre will break ground. Anchored by a Woolworths supermarket, the centre will include a mix of specialty retailers, cafes, and services creating a vibrant, walkable hub for locals and visitors. It’s a key milestone in turning Rockbank into a thriving, self-sustaining community.
In nearby Cobblebank, the new Melton Hospital is already under construction and the $900 million project is set to open in 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will provide emergency care, surgery, mental health services, outpatient clinics and more, easing pressure on neighbouring hospitals and improving healthcare access for tens of thousands of residents in Melton, Caroline Springs and surrounding areas. Adjacent to the hospital, the upcoming Cobblebank Stadium will feature indoor courts and multipurpose facilities for local sports and community events, complementing the already activated Cobblebank Indoor Stadium. They represent a boost for health, inclusion and local pride.
Transport is a cornerstone of the region’s transformation. Melton Line Upgrades are underway, with four major Melton level crossing removal sites at Coburns, Exford, Ferris, and Hopkins Roads being undertaken through road or rail separation. Alongside this, a brand-new Melton Station is being built with four platforms, full accessibility lifts, and seamless connections for buses, pedestrians and cyclists. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project is backed by a $650 million joint investment from the state and federal governments.
Road infrastructure is also being overhauled. The Western Highway between Melton and Caroline Springs is being upgraded to ease congestion and improve safety, while Melton Highway and Leakes Road intersections are undergoing duplication works, with staged completions between late 2025 and mid-2026. These upgrades are essential for supporting the area's growing population and economic activity.
Active transport and connectivity are also priorities. The 2025/26 Melton Council Budget includes expanded cycling infrastructure and new shared-use paths to connect the train station, town centre, and surrounding neighbourhoods. It is designed to encourage greener, healthier commuting.
New schools in Melton and local education investment.
Education is another big focus, with long-term investments in local schools and skills development. Highlights include a $28 million upgrade to Melton TAFE by 2028, a new Aintree Primary School opening in 2027, and upgrades at Kurunjang Secondary, Melton South Primary, Yarrabing Secondary, plus planning underway for improvements at Melton Primary.
Delivering effi cient transport, healthcare options , smart education choices, and new community hubs, Rockbank and Melton are rapidly evolving into one of Victoria’s most dynamic and liveable new urban centres. Rockbank is a good investment, whether you’re raising a family or starting a business, the west has never looked brighter.
